Hey Matt, another 2006 metal release which I really enjoy is "Maniacal Renderings" from Jon Oliva's Pain. I don't know if you like Savatage or not, but if you do, you will like this one.

Well in that case Matt, you may want to check out some of the post Streets cd's. In my collection I have:

Edge of Thorns (1993)
Dead Winter Dead (1995)
The Wake of Magellan (1998)
Poets & Madmen (2001)

The latter three are concept albums, a little more in the progressive metal direction than Edge of Thorns and previous. My favourite is Dead Winter Dead which is about the conflict in the former Yugoslavia / Sarajevo.

Hello TuneLand,

I've mentioned the Swedish born metal act "In Flames" a couple times before on TuneLand, but after a great listening session lastnight, I decided I to put them here in the treasure chest, where they belong.

My last few additions have been bands that I feel have some crossover appeal for you non-metal heads. In Flames, is not one of those bands! Laughing This is as heavy as it gets, without abandoning melody and musicallty altogether, and that's where my personal line is drawn. Music this agressive, yet at the same time melodic, is a sub-genre that In Flames all but created. Paving the way for many of todays popular metal acts such as "Killswitch Engage", "Lamb Of God", "Shadows Fall" and many more. In Flames is a trend setting band, and "Clayman" is a masterwork.

I love it! Very Happy

Hello TuneLand,

After being lead vocalist in several different metal bands, throughout the 80's and 90's (Back when metal singers actually sang), I'm so happy to see a more operatic vocal style starting to make it's way back into the scene. I like the growling thing too, but not all the time. If I wanted to listen to cookie monster, I'd watch sesame street! Laughing

Seriously though, "As Daylight Dies" from Killswitch Engage, has been in my player for a LOOONG time now. These guys really get it right in my book.

Hello TuneLand,

and in particular to Matt Very Happy ( I love reading your musical reviews ).As a person with a diverse taste in music,I am always thrilled to meet another. I've just been introduced to Amos Lee here on TuneLand.................Awesome !

This is what one of the many reviews says about him:

A singer-songwriter who takes his inspiration from the soul and folk artists of the '70s — John Prine, Neil Young, James Taylor, Bill Withers — Amos Lee first gained wide recognition when he toured with Norah Jones in 2004.

Sometime after giving up his job as an elementary-school teacher to pursue a career as a musician, Lee released his eponymous debut album; on his sophomore release (2006's Supply and Demand), he tackles the issues of money, success and power. The new album retains his mixture of folk, soul and jazz, and also asserts his versatility with slow, simple, dark melodies. Here, Lee talks about touring with Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard and Paul Simon and watching how they work with their bands.

If you folks get the chance, do listen to this guy, I promise you he will work his way into your soul......................

Bonny Very Happy
